Frescobaldi, Girolamo

Frescobaldi by unknown painter, Galleria d'Arte Moderna, RomeAmong the great organ composers and players in music history, and the man who liberated religious music from dependency in singing, to developed instrumental church music. His fame rests on numerous fugues, toccatasToccata No. 3 - Frescobaldi and many partitas for the organ, and he was the organist of St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome. As one of the most important keyboard composers of the beginning of the baroque period, he advanced keyboard technique and exploited sophisticated and daring modulations.
