Bizet, Georges
This gifted composer did
not win much success and appreciation in his own life,
and despite his great talent, the crowd rejected many of his pieces, particularly
in the area of opera.
The son of two musicians , he was born in Paris
and showed musical talent at an early age.
At the age of 12, he wrote his first compositions. He became a brilliant
pianist and wrote many compositions, including the Symphony
in C.
Like Gounod
and Berlioz,
he won the Prix de Rome
and moved to Rome
for 3 years. During these years, and although he felt safe with his financial
situation, Bizet began to have doubts about
his talent.
In 1863, his opera,
"The Pearl Fishers",
was raised without success. His greatest opera,
"Carmen",
was also poorly received, although it ran
almost 50 performances. Both the public and the critics considered it indecent
and also argued that the melodies in the opera were not good enough. Bizet
became very disappointed and his illness caused his death a few weeks later.
But since then "Carmen"
has definitely become the most popular opera
in the world.
