Notes & Pitch
In the past, music would be passed on from father to son, and learnt
by heart. Since then, notation was invented and it assists in the writing
down of music and its transmission from composer to performer.
Sound pitch is marked by the note's location on the staff.
The musical staff
This is the staff - the five-line row on which notes are written:
The clefs
The clefs show the pitch of central notes, and
in this way the player can know the pitch of every note.
Every clef refers to a different region of sound
(a register).
The G clef
The clef is used to indicate note pitches. According to the clef, we
know what sound each notes stands for.
The G clef (the treble clef) shows the note g on the second line.
This clef is used by women singers and
high-pitched instruments
