The city of Bonn is the political, cultural and scientific
center of the Rhine, and has a history dating back 2000 years. Today it
is home to many political and diplomatic institutions. Bonn is located
in the Rhineland of Germany between the Siebengebirge hills and the Eifel.
Ludwig
van Beethoven
is the most famous son of the city of Bonn. The City of Bonn hosts the
Annual Beethoven Festival
to celebrate the great composer who was born here.
Beethoven's birthplace, the Beethoven
House (Beethoven-Haus)
(515 Bonngasse no.20 today), includes
the room in which the musical maestro was born. The house contains a museum
and herein is a collection of thousands of original documents, musical
instruments, and personal belongings of Beethoven. In the World War II,
buildings all around the famous house were flattened by bombs, but Beethoven's
house survived.
The Church of St Remigius
is where Beethoven was baptized on Dec 17, 1770. The future Digital
Beethoven House
project will be a digital library, highly innovative pilot project, for
the digitizing of colored musical handwritings. There is also The
Beethoven Monument,
a large statue of Bonn's most important son, which stands in the centre
of a small flowerbed in front of the Main Post Office, on the Muensterplatz.
